Calcium Nitrate
INTRODUCTION
Calcium nitrate is an inorganic compound that is a white crystalline powder with two crystal forms. It is soluble in water, liquid ammonia, acetone, methanol and ethanol, but insoluble in concentrated nitric acid.
Calcium nitrate has a wide range of applications in several fields. In the electronics industry, it is used to coat cathodes. In agriculture, calcium nitrate is used as a fast-acting fertiliser for acidic soils and as a rapid plant calcium supplement, and is particularly effective for regenerative fertilisation of winter crops, post-additional fertilisation of cereals, and additional fertilisation to eliminate plant calcium nutrient deficiencies. In addition, calcium nitrate is used as an analytical reagent and pyrotechnic material, and as a raw material for the manufacture of other nitrates.
Calcium nitrate reacts with bases to form nitrates and calcium salts. However, it should be noted that calcium nitrate is irritating to human skin and eyes, so protective gear should be worn during handling. Accidental ingestion of Calcium Nitrate may cause discomfort in the mouth, throat and stomach, so you should rinse your mouth immediately and seek medical attention. In addition, mixing calcium nitrate with organic substances, reducing agents, flammable substances, etc. may cause fire or explosion, so special attention should be paid to safety during storage and use.
